Say 'I do' With Views of the West Pennine Moors

Bolton Wedding Photography | Lancashire Wedding Photographer

The West Pennine Moors is an area of high, rugged and exposed moorland in the north of England, covering parts of Lancashire and Greater Manchester. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty that is popular with walkers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The moors are characterized by rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and heather-covered expanses. The highest point is Winter Hill, which reaches a height of 1,498 feet (457 meters) and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The moors are also home to a variety of wildlife, including birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon, as well as sheep and other grazing animals.

One of the most striking features of the West Pennine Moors is the network of reservoirs that dot the landscape. These reservoirs were built in the 19th century to provide drinking water for the growing cities of Manchester and Liverpool. Today, they are popular destinations for fishing, boating, and other water sports.

The West Pennine Moors are also home to several small villages and towns, including Belmont, Rivington, and Darwen. These settlements offer a glimpse into the area's rich industrial heritage, with many of the buildings dating back to the Victorian era. They also provide access to a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, and pubs.

Overall, the West Pennine Moors is a rugged and wild landscape that offers visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty and tranquility of the British countryside. Whether you are looking for a challenging hike, a peaceful stroll, or a scenic drive, the West Pennine Moors has something to offer everyone.

The Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa is much more of a destination than just a hotel, for starters it's located on the edge of the beautiful West Pennine Moors, a perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs. The Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa started life as a cluster of farm buildings which date back to the 17th century. Originally known as ‘Orrell Fold. it is thought the name came from the Orrell family who owned the land and the estate, the Manor of Turton, from the 1420’s. In 1930 a well-known farmer and race horse owner and trainer, William Carr, brought the farm and used Orrell Fold for stabling and exercising his horses.

The farm was eventually sold in 1963 to Carton Walker, a visionary entrepreneur who created The Last Drop Village. The name was created as Mr Walker was celebrating the finishing touches on the restaurant. His friends offered him ‘the last drop’ of a bottle of wine to mark the occasion. That was back in 1964. Today, The Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa is a unique and friendly four-star destination with a host of prestigious awards under its belt. Situated on the fringe of open countryside with superb views across the West Pennine Moors. The Last Drop Village is a picturesque collection of Georgian farm buildings converted into craft shops, florist, hairdresser, antique and jewellery shops, artist studio, village pub, tea room and a spa resort and hotel. Such an unusual, quirky place, a quaint little village to have a walk around and certainly offers something a bit different for your wedding photographs.
